SUMMER PLANS

For the past 5 summers, our family has packed up and moved to our cabin on Pasley Island. We disappear as soon as school is done (June 12th) and basically re-enter civilization in September when school starts up again.  Our summers are so meaningful and magical, and memories are shared with friends and family who come and go.  We feel very blessed to have such a place.

The kids and I have already started writing our wish list of things we want to do this summer. I'm starting them early with the lists.  I love lists!  So far Clara wants to:
  1. Go look for crabs
  2. Go swimming to Daddy's boat
  3. Visit Keats
  4. Go for a walk to the park
  5. Go have an adventure on the Point
  6. Hike to the highest point on Pasley
And here are just a few crafty and cabin appropriate ideas I have stumbled across and would like to do this summer with my kids:
  1. Build a Fairy House

The kids and I have already found the perfect spot to build a place for the Pasley Fairies to visit.  It is at the base of a large fir tree up the from the cabin.  There is already a mossy floor, gnarled roots and a view of the ocean.

If you want more information on building your own Fairy House, go here or here at Playful Learning (which has also become one of my favourite blogs to visit).
  • Make things with our vast Beach Glass collection
I like this beach glass and driftwood mobile from the Martha Stewart website.  She has some other gooders as well.

Looking for beach glass and other treasures is easily one of our favourite summer activities, particularly looking for the more rare, green, blue and purple pieces.  Our little beach has become notorious for it's abundant glass, and with the help of friends, we have easily filled more than 6 jars worth.  Clara has taken to gluing the glass onto planters and driftwood.  I also like the idea of making some "Pasley's own" sea glass jewelry.
  • Make a Shell Memory Game

We have beach glass and we have a lot of shells too. This idea came from Jennifer at the Write Start.  She also has a tutorial if you want to make your own.  I'm sure Sam will beat me at this memory game too.

I have some other ideas as well, like plant a veggie and herb garden, leave a couple of easels on our deck and paint with the kids, get Clara to take photos and put together an alphabet photo book, invite some friends over for an outdoor tea party, get the kids a summer journal where they can include stories, photos, drawings and observations...

What are some of your favourite summer activities?
