AN UPDATE

(cork board in kitchen)
  • Clara no longer falls asleep with the light on, but rather turns every light off in her efforts to help planet earth .  She also wears rubber gloves and picks up garbage on the beach, she reminds me that I should recycle that tin can I'm about to throw out, is begging me to plant a vegetable garden so we can live off our land, and mutters when she sees litter on the ground and wonders aloud why someone would treat the earth in such a way?
  • Will has not slept through the night again since I posted about it June 4th.  But, he only wakes up once at 3:19am, which is still a milestone as far as I'm concerned.
  • 14 days into my bikini body plan, and I'm here to report that I have gained 3 pounds. What the...?!  To make sure our scale is not broken, I even weighed our 10lb medicine ball.  It is off by half a pound.
  • Will still loves to eat Kirby's dog food and at a year and a half can only say one word "hop" (hot).  Actually that is not true...he can also say "iiiiii" and "eeeee" using different tone and pitch.  He can point too.
  • And finally (because it is nearing midnight), looking back on my New Years Resolutions 09', I can truly say I am practicing being more grateful and I almost have a finished studio where I can be creative.  My basement, however, is nowhere near being organized.  I now refer to it as "the basement of horrors."  The kids think this is funny, but unfortunately the basement is also where their playroom is, so they are kind of scared to go down there.
GOOD NIGHT.  I guess I will be up at 3:19am...

CATCHING UP

Our past 5 weekends have been spent on Pasley, and I'm already getting behind in my photo posting.  These things can get away from you!  The lack of posts has been mostly due to my full hard drive, and my computer is now telling me again that it is full up and wants to shut down (sigh).

Anyway, I did manage to upload a few.  I love the summer (although I guess it is not officially summer yet?).

Sam is painting my nails a lovely shade of sparkly purple.

I like this one because it looks like Uncle Josh is trying to French Kiss Jesse the dog.

I think Sara is giving Will some champagne here?

Claudia beautifying the girl's with flowers from the garden.

Sam's very favourite activity EVER...chasing and racing (and winning).

LOST AND FOUND

This is the very wallet I lost on May 8th.  I didn't cancel or replace any cards because normally I misplace things, not lose them.  There is a difference! My wallets and keys and phones inevitably turn up, sometimes in the strangest of places

However, 12 days went by and I finally acknowledged that I did actually lose my wallet.

But then on Friday, I got the phone call.  My wallet was found at Safeway, 29 days after it went MIA.  So I went there today to pick it up, and when they opened up their lost and found drawer, lo and behold, there was my other wallet that I misplaced a week ago.  2 wallets found in a single day!

I wonder if it was a coincidence that I stumbled across this site today.

It is a 6 week online journey that will guide me through "divine decluttering and magical space clearing to create an amazing, spirit, light, joyful space".  What does this mean exactly? Well, I have no idea, and the part about using crystals, herbs, smudging and sound-clearing to make my space shine truthfully sounds a bit like crazy talk,  but I am open.  I acknowledge that I need help and accountability to declutter and organize my home and my life.

Maybe then, I will stop misplacing things.

HAIRCUT

(I'm mostly posting this because I know my sister and Annie are waiting for a picture).

On Friday I chopped a good portion of my hair off.  I went to a fancy place recommended by a friend who has good hair, and I honestly said to him "pretend I'm on a reality makeover show...just do what you think would look good."  And then I pointed out that I had a very square face, just in case he didn't notice, and that I needed to be able to put it back into a pony tail no matter how tiny it was, and then I started to feel nervous.

But I was ready for a change.  I have had the same haircut for 20 years, with maybe one to the shoulder cut.  Never mind that my hair was as dry as hay.  Anyway, I love my new doo so far. My husband feels slightly betrayed since I didn't say a word to him about my hair plans.  He loves the long hair, cascading over my bosoms look, but I think he is getting used to it.  It is not super crazy, just different.

Sam and Clara were taking pictures of me the other night...

RC DISASTER

I really can't relate to the whole remote control (RC) thing...

After lots of glueing and tinkering and online discussions, Jake's RC De Havilland Beaver finally made it's inaugural flight at Pasley last summer only to crash nose first into the ocean a few minutes later.  A year went by, and finally, the Beaver was repaired last weekend.

Which brings us to yesterday.  The winds were calm, Sam was excited (I mean, it was only a year he had to wait for Daddy to fix the thing), Jake told me to get my camera...it was a perfect afternoon to fly the Beaver again.

Maybe 1 minute into the flight, the Beaver went high (too high) and north and then disappeared into the forest.

It was found 200 feet up, stuck in one of the trees.  And there, I suppose, it will stay (although Sam did offer to climb up and get it).  At least we have some photos of what the plane looked like.  And at least it had 3 minutes of air time in it's flying life.

A MILESTONE

This is just too exciting...I had to post it.

Will slept through the night!

That's right.  You heard it here.  At a mere 18 months old (sarcastic tone) Will happily decided to go to bed at 6:45pm and wake up at 8:00am!

Now, we just have to work on the mommy sleeping through the night.  I might need to hire a sleep expert.  Maybe even cry it out.

Wish us luck tonight.  He may have slept so long because he was sick.  He also slept 6 more hours today and had a fever.  Although it was so stinking hot here today, it was hard to determine wether or not he was just overheated.

9 YEARS

20 years ago I first laid eyes on Jake at Summer Camp
17 years ago we officially became girlfriend and boyfriend outside Cactus Club restaurant
9 years ago today Jake and I were married
6 homes
3 kids
1 nutty dog later...

I can honestly say I love him more than ever.

So here is a little re-cap of our weekend (now that I have made a little room on my hard drive to upload some photos).

Our time began with a bottle of champagne, which was drunk rather quickly.

My husband likes to sabre his champagne bottle.  A little strange, perhaps?  I think so.  He has come along way since our wedding where he decided against serving champagne since it tastes, and I quote, "like throw up water."

The view from my deck chair.  Sorry about my feet...

Reading magazines in bed in the early afternoon.  I also need to add that I napped and woke up with drool on the pillow.

Kirby, looking for some ball action.  I did take her for a little trail jog.  We saw 4 deer too.

Opening an impressive bottle of red.

Drinking that red alongside a melted brie appie.

More champagne.  And yes, I was heavy with the drink.

My view from the rowboat.  Yet another glass of wine and a journal...life is good.

Jake rowing us our to the boat, on our way to dinner together.

Jake's view (of my hair, mostly)...

Bumped into friends on Bowen Island where we were dining.  Katie wants to be the star of a Broadway Musical...can't you tell?

Which brings us to the last picture...

I am so blessed to be married to you...the first and only love of my life.
